The motherboard you get for a 478 pin intel chip isn't that great. This chip is kinda good cause i had it but only had it for about 2 months then the computer fried. |

With this chip, you get the bigger 1mb cache, the older 533mhz fsb. Great chip if you are on a budget. Good price to peformance for an excellent mid level chip. Plays all the games pretty well. Leaves money for a good video card. |

Pretty good processor, but not good enough 2009-08-01 06:05:33 Reviewed by Bishop from Sacramento, CA US

I bought this chip a little over 1 year ago from eWiz to replace the stock P4 2.4ghz Celeron that was in my Dell. The chip is a great value for the cost and only dropped $3 in the last 13 months, however, it lacks future technologies, like Intel(R) Virtual Technology. Without this, you can not run the virtual XP Mode in Windows 7. You'll probably have to settle for a dual-boot system if you want to run XP programs and XP-specific peripherals. I have a USB tv tuner that isn't recognized in Windows 7, so I wanted to use the XPM, but I won't be able to that with this CPU chip.
This CPU is too slow to run HD video, too. You can view 1080P videos if you turn all your other programs off, but the video will still be choppy at best. I'm using an old Dell that has a PCI (not PCI-e) video card (128mb FX-5300), and 2GB of ram. Perhaps if I was running 3GB and an AGP card with 256mb of memory? But that would be wasting money on this old system. I tried installing Tomb Raider Anniversary and the game play framerate was so incredibly slow. It had to have been around 10 or 12 frames a second. Lara was moving in super slo-mo, not just slow motion. I couldn't even install Leisure Larry Blockoffice Bust. It installed, but wouldn't play because of both the CPU and video card.
This is a good chip and I have never had any problems with it, however, it no longer meets my needs. I'll be upgrading to a Quad-Core CPU this month and putting together a whole new PC. Hopefully the Quad can hold up for the next few years to come. |

Notice that this processor is an OEM version, meaning that you will have to purchase the cooler and the thermal compound seperately. In terms of performance, this processor can handle most tasks that you throw at it. The only downside of this processor is that it uses a lot of energy and produce a fair amount of heat. |

Nice fast processor. The 3.2ghz processor has plenty of power for 3D rendering and graphics work. 1mb cache is perfect for fast response times. Much better than my old P3 600mhz. |

I ordered one of these on may 16, 2007. It arrived several days later and was installed immediately using arctic silver and a Thermaltake cooler. It ran great until about August 21 when it died and took my mobo with it.
It was never overclocked and the temp never went above 57 (that I saw). Now I'm SOL because I missed the warranty by a few days. |

Great Chip 2007-06-09 06:19:12 Reviewed by Anonymous from Wyckoff, NJ US

I decided to stick with my Dell 8300, 4 years old. So this was the best option. The chip makes a noticible difference in gaming. I originally had a 2.6ghz chip. If you are sticking with the 478 you might as well upgrade to this. I also threw in a EVGA 7800 GS and I'm getting a little over 100 FPS in Counter Strike and games like Half-Life 2 are running a lot clearer.
This thing runs hot like everyone says. Unfortunately Dell has an odd set up for their Special heat sink. So I have to order a new Socket 478 Heatsink Retention Module to put in the cpu fan I ordered. |

I cannot emphasize enough 3Ware's live, knowledgeable, responsive tech support. If you want to deal with RAID card manufacturers residing on another continent and/or who sell cheapo cards, I wish you the best. I'll stick with 3Ware. |

This card performs very well. I run 2 Raptors in RAID 0 with this controller and it is a marked improvement over both the mobo RAID controller and the "software" RAID controller card I tried before. This is a true "hardware" controller. |

This card is certified for SATA II SSD connectivity. Keep in mind that the cable for this card, the 15 dollar part, is not included with the OEM above. The model number is CBL-SFF8087OCF-06M. You can pick that up at 3ware or whatnot. Also get the BBU-03 with the controller. It's not an optional nice to have with write-back caching.
Best part is it's Linux kernel native. No drivers. No fuss. |
