The motherboard you get for a 478 pin intel chip isn't that great. This chip is kinda good cause i had it but only had it for about 2 months then the computer fried. |

With this chip, you get the bigger 1mb cache, the older 533mhz fsb. Great chip if you are on a budget. Good price to peformance for an excellent mid level chip. Plays all the games pretty well. Leaves money for a good video card. |

The 2.8ghz is a monster of a processor. The 478 socket is a very reliable and builds a great performing system. Works great for games, office applications or anything you throw at it.
Great upgrade for your slower system.
