| The Good:
This drive is awesome. My Windows 7 64-bit starts in 15s (plus 20s for BIOS and drives initialization). FF start-up times increased dramatically. The heavier the program on disk activity, the more difference you will see with this SSD.
It's dead quiet. At first I thought I heard a high pitch sound at times, and was worried about it. But upon reading some reports online and doing thorough investigation on my PC I realized it was so-called coil whine from videocard. It wasn't quiet enough before (continued...) |
| The Squirrelly:
Not really a con, had to buy 3.5 bracket - didn't wan't tape the drive, it would be too lame. But buying OEM plus the bracket was cheaper anyway. The prices for SSD are still high. However, this Intel one is the best performer in it's class and is actually cheaper than Indillinx drives. |
| Pro Tip:
If you install XP or clone HDD, make sure your SSD is aligned (just google it). If you install Windows 7 fresh, no need to worry, 7 will do it right for you.
Mine came with the latest firmware but you might need to upgrade it (easy done using bootable CD from Intel)
I wish I got it when I used laptop only. For a laptop SSDs are even more beneficial (less power, heat, noise). |

| The Good:
Its fast - much faster then a traditional hard drive. Worth every penny. |
| The Squirrelly:
I have a Dell E521 system that uses a Nvidia Nforce chipset (Its an AMD type Motherboard). The HD Controller is setup by default to the NForce HD controller drivers in Windows 7. The Intel Utilities will not work with the Nforce drivers. You can change the HD Controller to the Standard HD Controller Drivers and the Utilities will work fine - but you must change the drivers for both HD controllers. |
