| The Good:
Windows 7 is the best version of Windows yet. This OEM version is cheap. It included drivers for my X58 Premium's Intel RAID out of the box; I thought that was impressive (ASRock also has Windows 7 drivers; I used them). It also seems better than the previous "Home" editions of Windows. I looked at buying Professional or Ultimate, but I don't think I would have used any of the extra features. The Windows XP mode and system backup might have been cool, but I already have software (continued...) |
| The Squirrelly:
This is the OEM version so it doesn't include much in the way of documentation or installation instructions. I also wish it were easier to tweak Windows for solid state drives (this applies to all versions of Windows, not just 7). Microsoft should make some kind of Control Panel applet for this purpose. |
| Pro Tip:
If you are going to use solid state drives in RAID, make sure you align the partition properly before installing Windows. Do not use the Windows installer to partition your RAID array. |
